The ego wants artificial immortality, if not directly, or in a computer, then at
least through the carnal reproduction of its organism’s genetic likeness. If possible, the ego desires, through naming and entraining its progeny, to sustain its political, religious, or aesthetic legacy. This is its final foothold in existence, extended in time beyond physical death, at least as an appearance of a memory in the minds of others. There can be no peace in the world until this deranged collective mental thought-form known as ego finally subsides. It can be eliminated voluntarily— through the practice of meditation, or through surrender to God, Buddha Nature, or some other concept of the Real— or it can require the death of the organism and its world. Once psychic energy is released from its subjection to egocentric thought, the liberated power of presence is revealed as the void of limitless potentiality.
