Paris Point Zero Measures All Distances

There is an old saying that all roads lead to Rome, but if you visit Paris, you can find a small geographic marker from which all distances in France are measured from the exact center of Paris.

The place is called Paris Point Zero and it was laid in 1924. Despite its significance, many are unaware of its existence. Point Zero is just outside the Notre Dame Cathedral, one of many magnificent buildings in Paris. The Point Zero marker is neither very famous nor especially eye-catching, so it’s no surprise many have never heard of it. In fact, one can easily pass it without even noticing the octagonal brass plate in the paving stone.

Who Was Mysterious Monsieur Legris?

Returning back to those days when Monsieur Legris was present here, and before the creation of the marker Zero Point, we learn that the statue standing on this particular spot was made in the image of a man holding a book and a snake.

Notre Dame Cathedral

The space in front of the cathedral was once bordered on one side by the imposing basilica itself and on the other by a picturesque conglomeration of little buildings, decorated with spires, spikes and weathercocks. These were interspersed with painted shops, having carved beams and comic signs. At the corners of the buildings were niches, ornamented with madonnas or saints, flanked with turrets, pepper-pot towers and bastions. In the middle of this space stood a tall, narrow stone statue, holding a book in one hand and a snake in the other. This statue was part of a monumental fountain, on which was written this couplet :

Qui sitis, huc tendas : desunt si forte liquores,
Pergredere, aeternas diva paravit aquas.

You, who are thirsty, come hither if, by chance the fountain fails
The goddess has, by degrees, prepared the everlasting waters.

Monsieur Legris (Mr. Grey)

The people used to call it sometimes Monsieur Legris (Mr. Grey), sometimes the Dealer in Grey, the Great Fasting Man or the Fasting Man of Notre Dame.

Many interpretations have been given of these strange expressions applied by the common people to an image, which the archaeologists have not been able to identify. The best explanation is the one given by Amedee of Ponthieu which seems to me all the more interesting since the author, who was not a hermeticist, judges without
prejudice and without any preconceived idea.

'In front of this temple,' he tells us, 'stood a sacred monolith, which time had rendered shapeless. The ancients called it Phoebigenus, the son of Apollo. Later the people called it Maitre Pierre, meaning master stone, stone of power?" It was also called Messire Monsieur Legris (Mr. Grey), since grey signified fire and particularly feu grisou
(fire damp), will-o'-the-wisp. . . .

'This stone was removed in 1748, when the square of the Parvisde-Notre-Dame was enlarged.'

She is naked, in order to signify that Hope remains with us when we have been bereft of everything. Above this figure the blazing, eight-pointed star symbolises the apocalypse of Destinies enclosed by seven seals which are the seven planets, represented by the seven other stars. The butterfly is the sign of resurrection beyond the grave.

Remember, son of Earth, that Hope is the sister of Faith. Abandon your passions and your errors and study the mysteries of true Knowledge, and their key shall be given unto you. Then shall a ray of the divine Light shine from the occult Sanctuary to dispel the darkness of the future and show you the path to happiness. Whatever happens in your life, never break the flowers of Hope, and you will gather the fruits of Faith.

8 Pointed Star - Hen Day–End Day–Ande

"Mevryl makes one of his leaps, suggesting that the cause might be Hendaye’s closeness to the pilgrim route to the shrine of Santiago de Compostela in Spanish Galicia. He mentions Nicolas Flamel in passing and then focuses on the green-language meaning of the Hendaye name itself. He breaks it down into “Hen Day–End Day–Ande” or “Egg–Apocalypse–Mountain,” and suggests that this multiple meaning of the word Hendaye was a determining factor in its choice. And he squeezes in another reference to Flamel: “The Egg is the philosophical Egg of alchemy, reminding us of Flamel’s ‘little poulet.’ This place name demonstrates the presence at Hendaye of a double teaching.”
