Capricornus
Despite its faintness, the constellation Capricornus has one of the oldest mythological associations, having been consistently represented as a hybrid of a goat and a fish since the Middle Bronze Age, when the Babylonians used MULSUḪUR.MAŠ "The Goat-Fish" as a symbol of their god Ea.[7][6]
In Chinese astronomy, constellation Capricornus lies in The Black Tortoise of the North (北方玄武; Běi Fāng Xuán Wǔ).
The Nakh peoples called this constellation Roofing Towers (Chechen: Neģara Bjovnaš).
In the Society Islands, the figure of Capricornus was called Rua-o-Mere, "Cavern of parental yearnings".[11]
In Indian astronomy and Indian astrology, it is called Makara, the crocodile.
Makara
Makara (Sanskrit: मकर, romanized: Makara) is a legendary sea-creature in Hindu mythology.[1] In Hindu astrology, Makara is equivalent to the Zodiac sign Capricorn.
Makara appears as the vahana (vehicle) of the river goddess Ganga, Narmada, and of the god of the ocean, Varuna.[2] Makara are considered guardians of gateways and thresholds, protecting throne rooms as well as entryways to temples; it is the most commonly recurring creature in Hindu and Buddhist temple iconography, and also frequently appears as a gargoyle or as a spout attached to a natural spring. Makara-shaped earrings called Makarakundalas are sometimes worn by Hindu deities, for example Shiva, Vishnu, Surya, and Chandi. Makara is also the insignia of the love god Kamadeva, who has no dedicated temples and is also known as Makaradhvaja, "one whose flag depicts a makara".

Note: Old Hebrew used the same shapes as its parent script, Phoenician. The mark of Tav in this tradition was X. About 200 BCE, the Jewish script, also known as square Hebrew developed. I believe the changes in the shapes of the letters reflected a concern to have the letter shapes match their own stories, rather than those of the Phoenicians.
