"Maya Ballgame originated more than 3,000 years ago.[1] The Popol Vuh describes the history of the K'iche' people and their rulers and mentions the important position of the Maya ballgame. Through this ball game, a conflict of the forces of darkness and light is described and enacted. By tradition, the twin brothers Hun Hunaphu and Xbalanque used their time on earth to play ball. Through the noise of the game aroused the anger of Vucub Came, the master of the underworld. A fight ensued, which resulted in the formation of the game. After the game, one of the brothers was decapitated and his head was used as the game ball.

"Since the ballgarne was played at Chichen Itza in the ninth century, we might be tempted to determine on what date in the solar year the sun coniuncted the dark-rift in that century. If we consult astronomy software, we find the rather un-spectacular date of December 3. But we must remember that the World Age myth—the final victory of the ballgarne—involved the far future transformation or rebirth of the solstice sun at the end of the current era, December 21, 2012.

Just in case you have missed it, the sun is white, so this game is not over. Everything that the Mayans bring to the table is still on the table until the sun is rebirthed. We are currently in the "time of no time", in transition to a new world in 3 years to 18 years max.

Clearly, the Ballcourt Stone portrays the Great Cycle ending of 13.0.0.0.0, when the December solstice Ahau successfully passes through the birth portal—the goalring—to re-emerge from the Underworld into the next world."

The Ballcourt Stone was found in the central spot of the ballcourt. At other sites, this spot is sometimes occupied by a simple marker. Sometimes these center markers contain a skull design or a corn-memoratior date. The center marker from the ballcourt at Tonina.. a Classic-period Maya site southeast of Palenque, provides astounding confirmation of the theory we have been discussing. Tonina's center marker shows an Ahau Lord holding a double-headed bar. As explained earlier, Maya kings represent the World Axis (the Milky Way), and the "serpent bar" they hold in front of them symbolizes the ecliptic. This interpretation is especially relevant to Palenque, a site closely related to Toning. So, this central marker plaque at Tonina says to us: Here is the spot that marks the cross formed by the Milky Way and the ecliptic.

But what about the dark-rift "hole" within the cross—the end-date goalring? Lifting this center marker up reveals a deep hole, thought by scholars to be a "sacrifice" offering pit. This "hole" clearly represents the dark-rift (black hole IMO) within the cosmic crossroads, a significant association, but there's more. Tonina's center marker contains the dedication date of 9.17.5.0.0, which is December 27, 775 A.D. Dedication events usually stretched over a couple of days, placing the beginning of this ballcourt's dedication within a day or two of the December solstice." So, the cosmic symbolism of the Chichen Itza ballcourt, clearly pointing to the end-date astronomy, is validated at Tonina. If we combine the symbology of Tonina's center marker with the symbology of Chichen Itza's Ballcourt Stone, and remember that the solstice sun is involved in both contexts, the following astronomical features arc implicated:

• The cross formed by the Milky Way and the ecliptic
• The dark-rift in the Milky Way
• The solstice sun in conjunction with the dark-rift in the Milky Way

"Ballgame symbolism clearly refers to the alignment that occurs on the 13-baktun cycle end-date in 2012. Despite the overwhelmingly clear picture that leads to this conclusion, my theory about the deeper meaning of the Maya ballgame is completely new. Scholars have narrowly skirted around putting the pieces together, but, strangely, they avoid making the connection. For example, Linda Schele and David Freidel analyzed hieroglyphs associated with the ballgame and deciphered an important glyph to mean "black hole" The Creation events played out in the ballgame "happened at the black hole." These authors then proceeded to note that the "black hole" hieroglyph refers to Maya Creation events, as well as the place where Maya kings were enthroned. and points to "the Black Road, through the Cleft in the Milky Way ... from the ballcourts of the Maya to the Court of Creation in the Land of Death." Incredibly, these scholars note a connection between the "black hole" hieroglyph so central to ballpoint symbolism and the dark-rift (the Black Road) in the Milky Way!

The number 13 pops up in many places on the dollar bill. There are 13 olive branch leaves, 13 arrows, 13 olive fruits, 13 steps on the pyramid, 13 stars above the eagle (Phoenix), and 13 bars on the eagle’s shield.

Oh, and “annuit coeptis” and “e pluribus unum” both have 13 letters.

Rebirth of the Sun of Righteousness

... It’s really quite simple. The ballcourt symbolizes the Milky Way, the goal ring is the dark rift (black hole IMO), and the game is about the rebirth of the sun. The ball represents the sun, and some ballcourts are aligned with the solstice, proving that, at least for those ballcourts, the solar rebirth occurred on the solstice. That’s it. This symbolism was integrated with the Creation Myth, in which One Hunahpu’s head represents the gameball. Generally speaking, the ball represents the sun and the game is about the rebirth of the sun. The game was not so much about athletic prowess; it was performed as part of the Creation Myth. It was an eschatological mystery play depicting the transformation and renewal that happens at cycle endings. In this play, the goal ring was the place of victory and rebirth. Thus, the ball’s passage through the goal ring symbolized the sun’s rebirth, its emergence from the underworld and the victory of light over darkness. It is easy to see that the goal ring represents the meanings given to the dark rift in the Milky Way. A more general interpretation loosely connects ballcourts with the underworld.

... The Maya ballgame was about the rebirth of the sun.32 The head emerging from between the legs on the throne is a symbol of the sun, as well as the game ball. The game ball moving through the goal ring is a metaphor for the rebirth of the sun. Also, at one point in the Creation Myth, the head of the father of the Hero Twins, One Hunahpu, is used as the game ball. The ballgame and the Hero Twin Myth is a mystery play, enacted on the ball field, and is all about facilitating the resurrection of One Hunahpu.

Mal_4:2  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

The 13-Baktun cycle of the Long Count calendar has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Its beginning or “zero date” (August 11, 3114 BC) does not indicate when the system was invented. That date was a back calculation made thousands of years later by the creators of the Long Count. Similarly, the end date in 2012 was a forward calculation. Together, the alpha and omega of Maya time philosophy delineate a World Age lasting 5,125.36 years. That’s 1,872,000 days, to be exact.

"the specific role of the goal ring in the game ball’s rebirth is unavoidable. It is the place where the game ball, symbol of the sun, is reborn, thus ending the game that ends a cycle of time and begins a new one. Here we see the relevance of the December solstice in this narrative, and how the game ball likely symbolizes not just the sun but the December solstice sun, because it is the December solstice sun that ends a cycle and begins a new one. For the purpose of our 2012 theme, it would be best to try to identify the site and the ballcourt that was most closely associated with the origins of the Long Count calendar. As we will see, the situation is rich and complex, but as I pursued my studies in the early 1990s it became clear that Izapa is this place.

Izapan Ballcourt

"So we can say that the ballcourt at Izapa is telling a story about the sun’s rebirth on the December solstice. But something else is going on here. As I studied the many carved monuments found in the Izapan ballcourt, a cohesive story with more profound implications unfolded. On the eastern end of the ballcourt, opposite the throne, is a monument that shows the demise of the vain and false ruler Seven Macaw. A ballplayer, probably one of the Hero Twins, is standing over him as he has crashed on the ground (see figure below). This scene represents a key episode from the Hero Twin Myth—the Hero Twins must do away with Seven Macaw, make him fall from his pride ful perch, before they can resurrect their father. This event happens at the culmination of the World Age, at the end of the cycle. The death of the false god must precede the rebirth of the true one. Importantly, we have a solar cycle at work here, but it is much larger than an annual cycle of some 365 days. Yes, this is a World Age context. The sun gets reborn every morning and every December solstice, but this rebirth happens on the level of the World Age.

Image 9 - Stela 11 "I mentioned earlier that my first indication that the carved monuments of Izapa were going to provide evidence for an awareness of the galactic alignment came from Stela 11. There are two main symbols on this monument: the frog’s mouth and the human figure that is emerging from it. Here we can benefit from definitions that come to us from epigraphers, where the upturned frog-mouth glyph means “to be born.” It is likely that hieroglyphic writing, developed after Izapa’s monuments were carved, evolved into more abstract shorthand forms from the earlier pictorial presentations, such as the one on Stela 11. The figure in the frog’s mouth on this carving is much like the one on Stela 67, displaying the “arms outstretched” gesture that scholars identify as a “period-ending” sign. He is the primordial first solar lord, the First Father deity who measures the cosmos at the dawn of an Age. He represents the Sun or Era that is newly born, emerging from the “to be born” place that is the frog’s mouth. Maya birthing concepts envision the newborn coming into the earth realm from the underworld. The frog’s mouth is thus the portal to the underworld.

A Black Hole in the Sky

In Joel Davis' fascinating book Journey to the Center of Cur Galaxy, we learn that we are 26,000 light-years from the Galactic Genter.13 Recalling that the full cycle of precession is 26,000 years; this means that the light, or "energy,' reaching us now from the Galactic Center began its journey toward us during the last era in which the December solstice sua conjuncted the Galactic Center—in 24,000 B.C.

We can only wonder what this strange coincidence of numbers might mean. Arc we currently experiencing some kind of time resonance with the Earth of 24,000 Are we receiving archaic messages through the 2012 time-doorway, knowledge to help us evolve? What is it about the Galactic Center that might make this possible?

The primary message of Davis' book is that astrophysicists now believe there is a Black Hole at the center of our Galaxy, a hyper-dense object in which space and time collapse inward. Black holes were previously thought to be only theoretical constructs, super-large "wormholes" in space from which even light cannot escape. Now, cosmologists are actually finding evidence for the existence of Black Holes, along with other strange stellar beings like quasars and pulsars.21

A frequently occurring mythic placename in the Classic-period inscriptions is linked with Creation events, and the glyphic passage in which it is found consists of the elements "glyph-T.128" (which means "sky" ), Yax (first or green), and the NAL superfix. NAL is related to the Mayan word na, which means both mother and house. Thus, the location of Maya Creation events is something like the First Sky-Mother House. This concept indicates that Creation events happen in the First House of the Mother Sky, the First Era of some great astronomical time cycle in-volving the Great Sky Mother, the Milky Way.

In every case, the text refers to the location of events that happen on the date 13.0.0.0.0. Here I must point out that the Long Count date 13.0.0.0.0 refers, literally, to the end of the current era in A.D. 2012 rather than to its beginning in 3114 B.C.
